2002 Annual Report
New
Way Ministries is also almost up and running. This is a "Transitional
Housing" program for single women and children who find themselves in a
housing crisis without shelter due to domestic violence or other emergency
situations where they need temporary housing for 30-60-90 days to get their
lives back in order. There will be intensive counseling and mentoring to
help these folks become self-sustaining and self sufficient again. We are
within a couple weeks of opening the doors.
Moving in the New Hope Center has had a tremendous impact on CHA/Project
Hope's capacity to served the poor and disenfranchised in our community.
Doubling our facility space has been a huge blessing and with large walk-in
freezers and coolers we are able to store much more food to distribute more
effectively to the hungry. Also, New Hope Center is developing into a "One
Stop Social and Health Services Mall" with counselors, parish nurses,
pastors, missionaries, an emergency shelter, prison/jail ministries,
pregnancy counseling, services to seaman and ships in port along with a host
of other services, it is rapidly becoming a community treasure reaching out
to all people and ages. And with a volunteer force of over 100 people, much
of the remodeling and food distribution is done for free!
